Starting In February 2005,
Technology Transfer Services of
Tampa, Florida teamed with
Bechtel and General Electric to
deliver Tier 3 training for the
USAID Iraqi Utility Development
Program in Amman, Jordan.
During this four month project,
TTS personnel successfully
trained 160 Iraqi engineers and
power plant technicians in power
plant operations,
instrumentation & controls, and
mechanical maintenance.
The program qualified 20
technicians with a Level 1
Instrumentation certification.
The technicians qualified to
calibrate pressure, flow, and
level transmitters on simulators
built in Jordan by TTS
personnel. The program was
highlighted by a visit from the
Iraqi Power Minister, who was
delighted with the results, that
he rewarded all graduates with
an additional five days of
vacation.
The program included a
comprehensive Train the
Trainer program where 80
Iraqi engineers learned how to
develop lesson plans using
Microsoft PowerPoint.
This program required all
participants to deliver a
videotaped training presentation
on a technical subject.
This combination of technical
training followed by instruction
on how to conduct training put
80 certified instructors in the
Iraqi Power Ministry.
